I have the same issue after a system update. It started after performing individual manufacturer updates. I have four update icons in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen and if I try to update it restarts the scaner application.

Looks to me to be job for "factory reset",

then check for firmware updates in the settings menu (connect to external power, otherwise it will not check for firmware updates) and once the update is loaded, reboot the system and afterwards check for software updates.

I had two firmware updates in the past 2 month and one directly after I got the device.
It is bit of a mess that the firmware updates are not in the update section of the main software and therefore are hidden.

For this kind of case, it is suggested you do factory reset and download all the software again.

Now I have nothing. The scan tool will not update and when I select any of the icons it says it is exiting the diagnostic program and the screen goes black. After a couple of seconds the desktop comes up. I see that I have updates but cannot load them without the reboot. My tool is unusable at this time.

After three resets it is finally loading software. The screen is blank and grey in the diagnostic program but software is able to download. I will update the final results after all of the downloads.
